The Department of Education has issued
a statutory Framework, known as the Early Years Foundation
Stage (EYFS). The framework sets out the legal requirements
for the care of young children relating to Learning, Development
and Welfare. Feedback from Little Stars Parents suggests
that they like to be kept informed on the EYFS as the
framework not only provides legal requirements, but also
structures around the four key areas of learning and development
as well as focus in helping young children achieve their
full potential.
The EYFS framework sets the UK standards for learning,
development and care for children from birth to five.
The curriculum is built around four principles:
1. A Unique Child
2. Positive Relationships
3. Enabling Environments
4. Learning and Development
Parents are kept informed of the development of their
child’s progress within the four principles the
EYFS framework through regular dialogue with their child’s
carer and through the individual development folder of
each child.
To give you a basic understand of the four principles,
below is how we implement it

|
A Unique Child
At Little Stars we focus on how children
develop; we recognise they are all different, but should
be treated equally. Positive relationships and good communication
are vital. Children need to learn about risks and safety,
how to make good choices and how to stick to boundaries.
We make every attempt to provide full opportunity for
each child to do their best and we achieve this by ensuring
their physical and emotional needs are met during their
time with us
|
 |
|
Positive Relationships
We support children in learning to manage their
feelings and build relationships. We respect all kinds
of families and aim to develop a positive two-way relationship
with parents. We will support, listen and work with the
children at Little Stars to help them learn. Each child
has a key person during their time at the setting to support
and comfort your child during their time with us, and
to build profiles and support play and learning.
|
 |
|
Enabling Environments
We plan and check on each child’s
progress and make every attempt to involve parents and
the local community. We ensure that inside and outside
spaces of the nursery are safe, interesting and engaging.
We support children in their transitions by working with
families and other settings: working as a team to help
children succeed. |
 |
|
Learning and
Development
Little Stars focuses on ensuring young
children learn through play and exploration, with support
for each individual. We encourage children to develop
imagination, to get actively involved in learning and
to make decisions. We make every attempt to develop children’s
creative and critical thinking, balancing the need for
both the children and adults to lead the learning.
|
 |
|
Physical development
Opportunities will be given for children
to practice their motor skills, learn about their body
and how to be healthy. A range of physical exercises will
be a part of the curriculum. |
 |
Creative development
and activities with Music & Drama
Children will be encouraged to participate
in-group singing, learn finger rhymes, animal songs with
movements and also learn about various cultures/religion
as well as imaginative role play activities through Music
& Drama. In particular, the group always celebrate
all the various festivals such as Diwali, Eid, Chiristmas,
Jewish as well as Chinese New Year and encourage the children
to wear traditional costumes. |
|
|
Early Learning software on Computer / Videos
Older children will also have the opportunity of learning
further through Early Learning software on the computer
in smaller groups which often enhances their development
with audio and visual displays.
Within all of the above learning areas, there are Early
Learning Goals which the children will be working towards
at the nursery but will be achieving at the end of their
reception year at Primary School.
It is very important to remember that all children’s
development is different and every child is an individual
and will progress at their own individual pace. Children
will always be encouraged to develop their knowledge
and understanding through day to day activities and
parents must make sure not to put pressure in any way
on children who may appear slow.
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development,
helping to build confidence, concentration, independence
and respect.
• Communication, Language and Literacy, developing
speaking and listening skills and beginning to read
and write.
• Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy, focusing
on number work, mathematical ideas and thinking.
• Knowledge and Understanding of the World, helping
children investigate and think about their place in
the world.
• Physical Development, relating to developing
physical skills and understanding.
• Creative Development, centred around building
children’s imagination.
• Welfare, ensuring we are all aware of our responsibility
for children’s welfare. We will look after your
child properly and help them to stay healthy. We also
ensure that Little Stars is a safe and positive place
for children

Little Stars Pre-School believe
it is vital that parents understand that the pre-school
years should be fun and exciting for all. Play and free
choice activities will be considered to be very much
part of the daily routine and allow the children to
develop independence at their own pace.
